An angle consists of two different rays with a common endpoint, also known as the vertex. The rays are the sides of the angle and the vertex is the endpoint. Being able to correctly name an angle will become a very useful and utilized skill throughout this course.

The first and third letters indicate points on the two rays. The letter in the middle is the vertex. Note that the first and third letters are interchangeable because they both measure the same angle. You can also name an angle by its' vertex, only if that vertex is not being shared by another angle.
Referring to the angle above, the entire angle could be named either ABC or CBA or simply angle B. Angle x can be named ABM or MBA. Angle y can be named MBC or CBM. Angles x and y cannot be named the vertex because both angles share the same vertex.
