The Pythagorean Theorem.
What is it? It's a statement used specifically for Right Triangles. It states that the square of the longest side (the hypotenuse) is equal to the sum of the squares of the two other sides (the legs). The legs are always referred to sides "a" and "b" and the hypotenuse is always referred to as side "c". What is it used for? The Pythagorean Theorem is used to find the missing side in a right triangle when you know two of the three sides. You substitute what you know into the formula and solve for the unknown. |
